Paris is said to be one of the most romantic places on earth. Well, I have been in Paris once. It was in 2002 and I was chosen to be a representative of the Berlin Youth Organization (Studentenwerk Berlin) for the Parisian Youth Organization (CROUS). The thought of being in Paris was of course very mesmerizing, since I would be in one of the most romantic cities in the world. After being there, it didn't seem to me that Paris is really as romantic as most people say. Perhaps there were things which disturbed me, e.g. air pollution, traffic jams, messy train stations, etc. It would have been more romantic if I had gone there with someone I love. Then I wouldn't have noticed all the bad things surrounding me. But this time, I'll go again with my family for 5 days and 4 nights. Perhaps my view about Paris will change after all. So, here is a preview on how I would spend days in Paris. But first of all, I may note some facts about the city.Facts
Paris is the capital city of France. It's famous for its fashion, language, arrogance and surprisingly its hospitality in hosting so many international organizations and not to forget the fashion shows. It's the most visited city in the world. It has many famous tourist attractions, e.g. Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame cathedral, the Champs-Elysées, the Arc de Triomphe, the Basilica of the Sacré Cœur, the Invalides, the Panthéon, the Grande Arche, the Opéra Garnier, the Louvre, the Musée d'Orsay and the Musée National d'Art Moderne, and popular parks like Disneyland Resort Paris. It's also known that the French will only speak French. That was also what I experienced there in 2002. I wanted to buy some stamps for the postcards. I asked if they could speak English and they said 'NO'. I was so annoyed since they wanted to trick me into buying the wrong stamps. So, after convincing them in French that I wanted the other stamps, they finally gave up fooling me around. That's why you should know some basic words and sentences if you want to communicate in Paris. In some other cities, the people make more efforts to speak English. That's why I've been practising my French again by listening to podcasts, reading the summary from a French course book. Le français est la langue essentielle en France, particulièrement à Paris. La langue, c'est très très important. Ne l'oublie pas!
Plan
The plan is that we go to Paris from Hagen via Cologne. We are going to take the Thalys from Cologne. It takes surprisingly only 3 hours and 51 minutes to get to Paris. And it costs only 29 EUR/person. The truth is I got the special price for the trip. Otherwise, it would cost at least 50 EUR/person.
Sightseeings
Besides sightseeing, tasting French food and beverages will also be on the menu. French croissants and baguettes are so delicious.
